Dreadnoughts (1992 Turcan Research Systems) This is an extremely serious naval combat simulator. Based on The nature of war on the seas during the first part of the 20th century, this game will be a treat for fans of realism in wargaming. The player takes the role of an admiral, commanding a fleet of gun-laden surface vessels. The interface involves receiving reports from subordinate officers and issuing verbal orders. However, the views are nicely rendered and the experience is at least as good as anything that can be achieved with miniatures and dice. The damage reports are full of specific details, yet they retain a certain ambiguity much like a naval commander would have encountered during actual combat in the World War I era. Dreadnoughts is not the sort of game one can just pick up and become immersed in without substantial preparation and study, but it is a dream come true for hard core naval wargaming enthusiasts.
